I love cheesy, romantic, drama, comedy films to give me a much-needed pick me up and when the world seems like a grim old place. Watching a happy movie is the perfect remedy for when I’m feeling down. They lift me up. They help me forget my anxieties and worries and they put a smile on my face. If you're looking for something to warm your heart, make you laugh, or reduce you to tears. I love chick flicks, romantic dramas simply because it has romance - its safe to say that yes I'm a hopeless romantic, I love love.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Juliet Ashton, a London-based author who seizes on an opportunity to speak at a book group on Guernsey, a sweet World War II era romantic drama movie.
The society has many secrets, more haunting than lurid, and Juliet wants to write about them, but they are strangely reluctant.
A story about struggle, humanity, kindness, love and while you might watch it for the cast, you'll love it for the story with its genuine love for classic literature, honest historical depictions, and charming dramatic romance. It’s definitely one to curl up and watch on a rainy day.
It's a comical, inspiring, sad and uplifting watch. If you like men who read then you'll fall Dawsey Adams - it is hard not to. I can't wait to read the book and fall in love Juliet and Dawsey again.
A Cinderella Story
A Cinderella Story is a classic, I’m sure everyone has seen it one hundred times, but it is always a good one to add to the list of movies to watch on a rainy day. This classic rom-com is about Sam Montgomery, played by Hilary Duff, who is a high school senior, who is stuck living with her wicked stepmother. Sam meets a boy online and begins talking to him with the hope of meeting him at the Halloween dance, when she finds herself shocked about who the boy behind the screen name is. Starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. If Hilary Duff was a big part of your childhood and teenage years, now's the perfect time to feel nostalgic and watch A Cinderella Story.
Love, Simon
Love, Simon is a rom-com that is making waves in the film industry with its LGBTQ+ representation. Love, Simon, starring Nick Robinson, is one of the few of it’s kind. This film stars a gay high school student named Simon, who meets a boy on his high school’s “gossip website.” The movie takes you through the ups and downs as Simon searches for the boy who he is falling in love with over email. Not only will you cry once Simon finds his love, but you’ll sob when he comes out to his family; seriously though, I cried about six different times during this movie.

I have to own up here as the die-hard romantic that I am: It was the love story between Eilis Lacey and Tony Fiorello that did it for me.
Crazy Rich Asians.
As the first modern love story with an all-Asian cast and an Asian-American lead in TWENTY-FIVE ENTIRE YEARS. It is one of the few Hollywood narratives that portrays Asian Americans as individuals and not just racist stereotypes. The story follows New Yorker Rachel Chu who's happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse -- Nick's disapproving mother. Crazy Rich Asians may not represent you. It certainly doesn’t represent me. But that doesn’t make it less important. The more we push for representation of Asians in entertainment, the more stories we get to tell.
Dirty Dancing
Frances (‘Baby’) falls in love with a dance instructor while spending the summer at a resort with her family.
Dirty Dancing never fails to get me singing along and brightens up the day.
I LOVE this film. The dancing and the soundtrack are amazing. I think we all fell for Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle, it was impossible not too. That lift though.. it's the perfect pick me up.
Bridget Jones' Diary
This wanton sex goddess is a woman's life-long friend and confident who makes sense of life, love and London with a group of mismatched friends. Big knickers aside, this film will have you cheering for the underdog and debating who is hotter, Daniel Cleaver or Mark Darcy. Obviously it's Mark Darcy, i mean Colin Firth alone is a dream.
The first one is still my favourite. But I do love them all. They are honestly such brilliant and funny films. Pretty
realistic
too, in most aspects and oh so relatable. We're all a little bit like Bridget. Bridget Jones always delivers no matter what mood you're in.
Breakfast At Tiffany's
Even if you've watched this classic hundreds of times already, it's always worth watching it again.
Step back in time to this 1960s classic; a story that tells the life of eccentric socialite Holly Golightly who reluctantly falls for her neighbour, struggling writer Paul Varjak. The music alone will have leave you feeling nostalgic. You can't go wrong with a Audrey Hepbrun classic.
Love Rosie
Love, Rosie is your typical cliched romantic comedy. Rosie and Alex met at a young age, and they became best friends. They spend most of their childhood together. It was Alex and Rosie all the time, and nobody could change that. However, as one grows, life begins to throw many obstacles at you (am I right???), and our characters are separated from each other. Alex, nor Rosie, however, had the guts to tell each other how they truly felt.
We follow them from years. We meet them during high school, and we end many years later when Rosie finally manages to accomplish her dream. And I believe that's what I love most about the movie. Love, Rosie doesn't entirely focus on the romance plot.
Penelope
This cute tale follows 25-year-old Penelope (Christina Ricci) who is cursed with a pig’s nose. The only way to break the spell is if she marries a blue blood, so her mother has been trying to set her up since she turned 18. During a meet-and-greet session with eligible bachelors, Penelope meets Max (real name, Johnny) (James McAvoy) who urges her to live her life instead of being caged up.
Watching Penelope, I can’t help but swoon a little. For something light and cute, it’s the perfect movie!
